The best actor award goes to…Waytha!

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16: The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has unveiled his unexpected Cabinet line-up on Wednesday especially with the appointment of Hindraf P. Waythamoothy as the deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

On the other hand, Hindraf de facto leader P. Uthayakumar, in a statement to The Malaysian Times (TMT) said that Waythamoorthy’s appointment has nothing to do with the party.

“Waytha has hijacked Hindraf and sold it to the Barisan Nasional (BN). He has betrayed

the Indian community who was ill-treated during the November 25th (2007) rally,” he said.

Uthayakumar, who is Waythamoorthy’s elder brother, said Waythamoorthy is a political opportunist and was diverted by his own personal agenda.

“Congratulations to Waytha for being the new (former MIC president Datuk Seri S) Samy Vellu,” he said.

Uthayakumar said that he will take lead of the Hindraf and continue to voice out the Indian community’s issues. He said Waythamoorthy was sacked from the party on April 25th for being a traitor to the party by supporting BN.

“I have struggled for the human rights and Indian poor for almost 24 years, while Waytha only joined Hindraf in 2007 and later ran away to London. He only took charge of Hindraf when I was detained under ISA,” said Uthaya.

“Prior to that, Waytha was the Chairman of Vivekenanda Youth Movement singing praises and Jalra on weekends, family day and at social gathering,” he added.

“I will continue with the Hindraf’s anti-BN crusade, which is Hindraf’s number one enemy,” stressed Uthaya.

Hindraf made a tremendous change in 2008 general election’s result as a huge number of Indian votes flee to the opposition in result of their rally which took place on 25 November 2007.

Five Hindraf leaders were arrested and detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) and detained for two years, while Waythamoorthy lived in exile abroad for five years.

Hindraf was then declared illegal in October 2008 but the Government lifted the ban in January this year.

Hindraf had previously submitted its Blueprint, which contains the permanent solutions for the Indian community’s unsolved problems, to PR but was not accepted as they claimed that their Buku jingga contains the same issues.

Disappointed with Pakatan, Hindraf later announced that they were ready to meet Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to discuss on their demands but there was no response from the PM’s Department.

Disappointment and long futile struggle for the Indian community drove Waythamoorthy to embark on a solo hunger strike, on March 10th, as their final move in highlighting the plight of the marginalised Indian community and also to seek acknowledgement from the politicians pertaining to their teething problems.

On April 18, BN agreed with Hindraf’s blueprint and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with six key points, aimed at bringing poor Indians into the mainstream of the country’s development.

In return, the Hindraf pledged to pursue the Indian community to vote for BN in the 13th General Election. -TMT
